New Urban Lifestyle in Craig Ranch, Master Planned Community McKinney TX
City or suburb? More and more people are saying they want the benefits of both—and they’re discovering that and more at Craig Ranch; a master planned community in McKinney just minutes from the Dallas metroplex.
New Urbanism recognizes walkable, human-scaled neighborhoods as the building blocks of sustainable communities and regions. The design of streets, buildings, and transportation choices allows for frequent and meaningful encounters between people, recreating a sense of community that faded during the decades when cities sprawled and suburbs flourished.
Craig Ranch takes New Urbanism a step beyond by casting essential elements into a community designed from the ground up outside an existing urban setting. This vision is playing out on a fresh slate amid the rolling hills of McKinney, Texas, just 30 minutes north of Dallas. The idea was to combine the essential elements of community, work-life balance, and healthy lifestyle opportunities, into a self-sustaining environment with a twist: The bold centerpiece of the TPC Craig Ranch private golf course. A second world-class venue, the renowned Cooper Fitness Center & Spa at Craig Ranch, is located adjacent to the golf course, offering health, fitness and spa services.
Just off Town Center, home sites to the north and offices to the south suggest a daily cross pattern as locals traverse to and from the employment district designed for today’s growth-oriented businesses. Craig Ranch, with AT&T, has installed an advanced communications infrastructure to ensure that the technology is readily available to meet the needs of Craig Ranch’s vision. A new private hospital is part of a booming medical district.
Housing choices include low-maintenance townhomes, condominiums, apartments, modest single-family and empty-nester homes and luxury homes built on half and full-acre lots in a gated community.
Recreational opportunities abound. The Ballfields at Craig Ranch host local, regional and national competitions ranging from select baseball and softball leagues and tournaments to the elite amateur play of the Texas Collegiate Baseball League. McKinney Soccer has 13 lighted, regulation-size soccer fields just to the east of The Ballfields at Craig Ranch. The Beach at Craig Ranch features premium sand volleyball courts—4 full-size beach soccer fields, or 12 beach tennis courts. The property also includes a portion of a six cities trail plan which offers a pedestrian-friendly environment.
Throughout the property, Texas-inspired art and sculpture dot the landscape, from dramatic cascading waterfalls to the various western bronze statues encountered along the pathways and greenbelts. A sense of place, a purpose for everything, Craig Ranch in McKinney TX is a master planned community for all time.

McKinney Ranked 5 in Money Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live

Money’s research and analysis included financial issues (purchasing power and cost of living); housing; education (student performance and educational opportunities); quality of life (environmental issues, crime rates, worker commute times); leisure and culture (museums, entertainment, restaurants, bars, golf courses, etc.); weather; and population demographics.
McKinney's tree-filled communities are surrounded by ponds, parks, and hiking trails. Though growth over the past decade has been rapid, it has been planned with care so the beauty and charm of the area remain intact.
One of McKinney’s centerpieces is Craig Ranch, an award-winning 2,200-acre urban mixed-use, master-planned community that borders Frisco, Allen, and Plano, and is minutes from State Highway 121/Sam Rayburn Tollway. Craig Ranch is a classic example of “new urbanism”—the concept of a livable, sustainable community that blends residential, commercial, and resort-quality recreational amenities into a defined urban community.
Pedestrian-friendly narrow streets and wide walkways are reminiscent of an earlier American time when people relished the corner store and public squares that brought them together. In the unique community of Craig Ranch, all residential areas are connected to the Town Center, parks, amenities and retail establishments by an extensive trail system designed to reduce the use of automobiles. Those trails also connect to the regional Six-Cities Trail system, which is a network of biking and fitness trails. For those who prefer not to walk or bike, the vintage Craig Ranch Trolley Bus shuttles residents and guests around the community.
McKinney was also rated as one of the top ten best places to move by Forbes Magazine. If you are looking for a new home for sale in the Dallas metro area, we invite you to call or click to learn more about Craig Ranch.
